  • Location Lillehammer
  • Programme length 3 years
  • ECTS 180
  • Language Norwegian (Scandinavian)

The editor's task is construct a flowing story from the material captured on set so the characters live and the audience gets to see the story the director envisions. The audience must be drawn into a universe and wish to stay in that universe until the story is told. The editor possesses a variety of tools and methods that facilitate this, which the editing student will become familiar with through instruction and practice.

The editing programme aims to provide you with the skill to analyse screenplays and review the recorded film material. You will be introduced to the film elements that have storytelling potential: composition, image dynamics, footage, mise-en-scene, narrator points of view, and dramaturgy. You will immerse yourself in how ideas are enhanced through montage and how dialogue occurs between images.

Career prospects

As a graduate of the editing programme, you will be able to edit film stories of different formats and genres. You will possess strong collaborative skills and will have a creative and artistic understanding that make you a valuable player in a film team. You will also be able to work independently. The goal is to develop your own unique point of view so that you can make artistic choices for the movie and translate this into the editing process.
